The Client
Glencore’s wholly-owned Carbon Transport and Storage Corporation (CTSCo) Pty Limited Project aims to conduct carbon capture and storage (CCS), initially on a demonstration scale, and if successful, on an industrial scale.
The CTSCo Project is focused on:
- Capturing CO2 from a coal-fired power station in Queensland
- Evaluating the feasibility of storage by injection testing of the captured CO2 deep underground in the Surat Basin in Queensland.
The Project
The project is intended as a first step toward large-scale CCS, enabling future industries including hydrogen production and contributing to Australian and Queensland Government climate and emission reduction goal. In 2019, CTSCo was granted EPQ10, and following investigations of potential test injection areas within the tenement, the current Project operational lands were identified as having the greatest potential for a suitable test injection site with the fewest potential impacts on the environment and community.
Our Services
This significant phase of the project was marked by the successful drilling of four CO₂ monitoring wells in a drilling campaign from September to December 2023, each of which reached a depth of approximately 2500m. This recent success concludes our third drilling campaign for CTSCo and brings the total well count to 6 since the commencement of our involvement in 2020.
The Outcome
Our team delivered efficiency and precision from the design stage and procurement of equipment and services through to the final execution phase. Our exemplary safety record was maintained, with the program being completed without incident or accident.
