The Client
Comet Ridge is listed on the Australian Securities Exchange with the ASX Code: COI and is based in Brisbane. The Company’s flagship gas project comprises the Mahalo Gas Hub assets located in central Queensland, 240 kilometres to the major gas demand centre of Gladstone.
The Mahalo Gas Hub assets comprise the following permits:
- Mahalo Gas Project – an extensively appraised coal seam gas project (currently owned 40% by Comet Ridge and 30% each by Santos and APLNG) with certified gas reserves and Petroleum Leases awarded; and
- Northern Mahalo Projects – comprising Mahalo North, Mahalo East, and Mahalo Far East. These projects are 100% owned and operated by Comet Ridge and are being appraised to add new gas reserves either as stand-alone gas projects or to complement the Mahalo Gas Project development.
The Project
We were selected by Comet Ridge to execute the two well appraisal programs in their new tenement Mahalo North (ATP 2048).
Our Services
Our team used wireline coring, mixed casing strings (including 7″ fibreglass), geosteering and interception, sumpless drilling practices, and wireline MDT testing during this project, leveraging our ability to ensure the accuracy required to achieve project outcomes.
The Outcome
The program commenced with the vertical core well Mahalo North 1. Coring went smoothly with good recovery rates and high-quality coal. Within the 314m total depth of the well, approximately 9m of coal was intercepted. Mahalo North 2 was drilled as a dual lateral intercept. The first lateral successfully intercepted Mahalo North 1 (the future production well) and continued to drill to 1735m, giving close to 1300m of lateral within the coal seams. A second lateral was drilled to 1152m – giving a total of almost 1900m inseam – a positive result for Comet Ridge. The project was executed without incident, achieving a clear safety record.
